Huawei brings another Huawei ICT Academy to enhance Myanmar’s ICT talents
[Yangon, Myanmar, 8 December, 2020] – Yesterday, Huawei organized to implement 2nd Huawei Authorized Information and Network Academy (HAINA) according to the ICT Talent Development Program MoU between Rectors’ Committee and Huawei to help the local universities cultivate ICT talent that meets industry requirements, providing high-quality talent for industry development. Huawei will provide quality courses and support services to universities to help them train teachers, establish and optimize ICT majors, improve the curriculum system, and build standard labs.
At the signing ceremony, Mr. Zhou Kai, Director of Huawei Myanmar Public Affairs and Communication Department gave the opening speech and followed by Dr. Mie Mie Thet Thwin, Rector of University of Computer Studies. Along with the schedule, Mr. Gutar April, PR Manager of Huawei Myanmar Public Affairs and Communication Department explained about HAINA program in detail.
Dr. Mie Mie Thet Thwin, Rector of University of Computer Studies mentioned her gratitude towards Huawei. She said “Developing IT campaign like HAINA is a huge economic benefit for our country. IT can nurture news industries and create wealth, drive transformation and upgrade overall economic structure, bring job opportunities and improve quality of living for our citizens. As universities need to work with enterprises closely, Huawei always support education sector in every aspect and also provide a learning opportunity for our new talents. We really appreciate and thank Huawei for bringing in a bridge called HAINA which connects academy and industry at the difficult time like this.”
As a global leading ICT solution provider, Huawei launched its ICT Academy, a school-enterprise cooperation project that involves higher education institutions, to help build that talent ecosystem since 2013. Huawei has been invested heavily in exploring practices with universities and colleges from over 72 countries and replicating successful experiences.
Mr. Zhou Kai said “Huawei founder Mr. Ren Zhengfei once said that, the basic education is fundamental to industry revitalization and national development. In fact, it is our long-standing policy to disseminate knowledge and technical cooperation in excellent universities around the world. According to the Chinese saying, ‘It takes ten years to grow trees, but a hundred years to rear people’ - developing basic education is a matter of the present time, but it is of great benefit of the future. We truly hope this contribution would help cultivate more technical and innovative talents for the nation, and support the sustainable development of the ICT industry of Myanmar, Help Myanmar enter a better digitalization life.”
In the academy, an opening platform for students to communicate with their peers and show their talent, Huawei will be providing teaching experiment equipment for cooperative universities to improve students' practical skills. Through training teachers, free exam vouchers will be provided to encourage students to participate Huawei's certification exams. In academy’s courses, students can learn a wide range of technical subjects such as routing and switching, storage, cloud, WLAN, cloud computing, big data, IoT, and artificial intelligence from academy experts from Huawei Headquarters. Apart from those beneficial courses, Huawei will be donating a standard HAINA laboratory to the university along with full facilities. Nevertheless, the opening ceremony of 2nd HAINA will be happening in coming February due to the circumstances of COVID-19 pandemic.

On 29th December 2018. Huawei Myanmar and the Rectors’ Committee with the support of the Ministry of Education signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). In the MOU which is 3-year ICT Talent Development Program, the 6 areas of cooperation broadly include establishing ICT Diploma Course System, sponsoring “Seeds for the Future”, establishing the Huawei Authorized Information and Network Academy (HAINA), awarding the ICT Talent Scholarship to excellent university students, providing support for ICT related scientific research and organizing the Youth Open Day at Huawei Customer Solution Innovation & Integration Center (CSIC). The very first HAINA was successfully accomplished at Technological University (Thanlyin) in February 2016.

The universities that cooperate include some of the most highly rated in China, such as Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Fudan University, as well as world-renowned universities, including Bauman Moscow State Technical University, University of Malaya, and the University of New South Wales. The Polytech Nice Sophia and other engineering colleges, as well as the Shenzhen Vocational Technical College, the UK’s Northeast Surrey Technical College, and other leading higher vocational colleges are also included. In total, 927 colleges and universities are involved. More than 45,000 students are trained every year. In 2019, Huawei and over 1,300 partners jointly held 51 talent fairs around the world, attracting more than 21,000 students and providing more than 3,600 high-quality ICT personnel to the industry.
